TIGER

y: Bob Johansen – Feb. 2008

Tiger Lake is shared by Mason and Kitsap Counties. It covers about 110 surface acres with most of the lake in Mason County but about 6 of the surface acres in Kitsap County. The public access area is on the north end of the lake in Kitsap County. Tiger Lake reaches depths of about 40 feet and is located at an elevation of 496 feet. Fish species, known to me, include rainbow trout and perch. The trout are known to grow to lunker sizes. Most of the perch that I have seen were still quite small.

I have heard rumors of largemouth bass but so far have never caught or even seen one even though I have explored it a couple of times. Bass habitat in this clear water lake would include lots of private docks, a few pad fields some over hanging brush and a few cattails.

Public access is provided by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. The large access area has lots of parking space, a newer pit toilet and a very shallow boat gravel launching area. There is specific launch area or boat ramp. The entire waterfront of the access is used for boat launching. It is all very shallow and some boaters use their boots to launch.

To get to Tiger Lake from Belfair, travel west on Highway #300 West for 1.1 miles to intersection with Sand Hill Road. Turn right, up the hill on Sand Hill Road for 5.2 miles to intersection with Bear Creek-Dewatto Road. Turn right for about one mile to N.E. Tiger Lake W. Road. Turn right for about .3 mile to WDFW public access area on the right.
