The night before I had set up a trap to see if this particular lake/large pond that I regularly fish in has any crayfish in it. I woke up late and decided that I needed to go look at my trap, I grabbed my daughter and on a last minute thought grabbed my pole with my grasshopper popper. We walked up there briskly and retrieved the trap it was empty, I’m not sure if it was my location or if this lake is just devoid of these critters as I haven’t ever seen them there but the habitat is right.
I decided to cast out a few times with the popper and instantly received hits caught a few missed a few. The LMB were really active and snapping at anything that so much as went near the water. It was really quite entertaining to watch. The picture is pretty standard fare up here, roughly 11” and weighing a pound. I actually put the popper right on this fishes nose and thought dam I spooked him. I let the popper sit to see if he would investigate and a few taps later he exploded on the hopper. I’m going to have to switch lure as the Milfoil is really becoming soupy.
