Finished off the fishing season up at Silver Lake positively and got the boats out of the water for the winter. 5 people fishing 2 hours Saturday evening and Sunday mid-day and we all caught one apiece fishing off the bottom with pink and rainbow power bait. My brother also caught a little guy on our way to the spot going top speed on a wet fly, must have been the fastest fish in the lake! 2 eagles and 2 river otters were out enjoying the last of the sunshine.

Hit the water around 830, right before the sun hit the lake and there was a nice fog on the surface. Anchored up in 28 feet of water @ my favorite spot and fished off the bottom with pink/orange (sherbet) powerbait. I caught 2 nice 13" Rainbows, my brother caught 1 and my girlfriend caught a smaller, 8" one which was released healthy, all in about 2.5 hours. Great weather.

Hit the lake at around 830 AM with my brother and girlfriend. We trolled all kinds of things, a fly on top, pop gear with a spoon or needlefish, flatfish and rooster tails. My brother just caught a tiny 6" Rainbow on his pop gear. After an hour, we anchored up in our spot to still fish. We hooked up consistently for 2 hours off the bottom with pink/orange power bait or pink garlic power eggs with about 3.5' to 4.5' leaders. My girlfriend caught the first one, followed by 3 for me, including one cutthroat, all around 12.5". My brother hooked a lunker but his line got caught up in the stringer and when I went to net the fish, it got off, I felt bad. Overall, it was a great day on the water.

Caught 3 - 13" Rainbows off the bottom with power bait and released one of them. Trolled back to the dock and landed another one on a black woolly bugger on top. Didn't have much luck on Tuesday but the girlfriend caught 1 trolling a small dick nite sized White and orange miracle lure on top. The fish seem to be fattening up nicely.

Fished both the morning and evening bites on 4/28 and 4/29. Lake was packed with boats which is common on opening day weekend but it was unnecessarily frustrating getting around people that decide to anchor up in the channel between the shallow end and the deep end while simultaneously avoiding the grumpy bank fishers.

Noticed alot of people trolling pop gear which is in my opinion, completely unnecessary for clear water. Visibility was incredible.

4/28 AM - Caught 1 - 12" Rainbow on power bait off the bottom in 26 feet of water
4/28 PM - Caught 3 - 10"-12" Rainbows on power bait off the bottom in 28 feet of water
4/29 AM - Caught 3 - 2 - 10"-12" Rainbows and 1 - 14" Cutthroat off the bottom in 28 feet of water
4/29 PM - Caught 2 - 10" - 12" Rainbows off the top on a bobber with Gulp Corn (LOTS OF ACTION!)

I've always had success with Power Bait for the first part of the season and this was no different. With the heavy stocking this year @ 14,000, I'm hoping they get nice and fat for my next trip up. I plan on switching to flies after the lake turns.

My buddy and I went to Silver Lake expecting a good day of catch and release. What we got was the hardest challenge we've had so far. Very hot, not a cloud in the sky, no wind, gin clear water with 13' visibility, and the worst distraction of all, the human male's kryptonite. Multiple sightings of the female anatomy in its purest forms, and these women on shore were clearly trying to distract all the focused angers that came by. But the highlight of the day was the first fish. The first fish came in the afternoon and was a 14" Hybrid Cut- Bow Trout! That's right Gentlemen, a "Cut- Bow" Trout! This trout showed characteristics of a rainbow but with the red-orange color slash below the trout's jaw on both sides. This was a first for me. Stupid though, I didn't think to get detailed photos of all sides on this fish. I just thought it was a rainbow and then noticed the throat slashes and though, "no, it's a Cutthroat". After researching at home, I discovered what I really had. For info on Hybrid Cut- Bow Trout reference http://www.coloradotrouthunters.com/troutidentification.html. The day continued on and we caught largemouth Bass till nightfall. The Bass were all between 6"- 12" but, when you catch close to 30 of them it's still fun. We sighted several 3lb and 5lb Bass but, never hooked up on them. It is clear that this lake comes alive in the early morning and evening for Bass but, Trout can be cought all day. All in all, a very challenging day but, determination paid off in the end.

See you on the water!

Haven't seen many lake reports up lately, so thought I might contribute.

Spent the afternoon at Silver today. Tried a bead-head Chironomid nymph, a shrimp imitation, a bloodworm, and everything else in my kit that was on a size-12 hook or smaller.

Saw fish were rising here and there, so I put on a black/white striped Chironomid dry fly. Had a good surface hit from a small trout off a shelf near the boyscout camp but he shook loose.

Then hooked into a nice-sized trout, probably 14" or so. He was strong but the fun was short-lived. I caught him over a shallow shelf and he wrapped himself around some weeds. I maneuvered my kayak over him and tried to pull loose, but only came away with leader and tippet. I could see him down there, breathing hard. Hope he got loose.

Finally, I C&R'd one 11-inch rainbow on the other side of the lake, on a size-16 olive and white Chironomid dry. He took it as I was just starting to strip it in. Though small, he fought for freakin' ever. A local land owner saw the whole thing and applauded when I finally got him to the boat. That was gratifying. A quick photo and released.

Saw a few gear chuckers out there. One boat in particular, dragging strings of spinners, was doing a lot better than I. I saw them pull in at least six fish while I was out there.
