Saw a lot, but not really going after much. My buddy had one follow up and that was it for the day. Still it was a nice day on the lake.

Went back for a two day fishing gig at Ike Kinswa. Day one = Bottom shore fishing, not a bite. fish jumping all around me. Day two = Morning bottom shore fishing not a bite, switched to a lure nothing. Went for a walk to think things out. Came back moved to a shallow part of the lake on the sandbar. Bottom fishing. Landed a 13" rainbow trout. (Line and or sinker got hung on to the bottom rocks for a bit. Worked it out of the wedge and landed the fish). My 4 year old son joined the fishing with his 14" fishing pole. I had seen fish surface jumping so I hooked him onto a bobber, egg hook and power egg using a few split shots. That boy caught two less than a minute after casting. He sure taught his old man how it is done!!

Went shore fishing at Ike Kinswa State Park small sandbar area. Not an experienced angler I used an 8ft rod with 15lb line and 10lb leader, swivel sinkers with Power eggs. My first cast hooked what looked like a muskie. (so much for the "fish of a thousand casts"). It was 11" so it was released. then we immediately hooked on to a 12" rainbow trout. We also lost what seemed to be a big one. The rest of the morning was quiet other than snagging on either rock or stumps.

Any suggestions as to how I can fish from shore and be more successful is welcome.

Took a couple of friends fishing for tigers hoping to get at least one of them on a fish. They were looking for their 1st's. Did a little better than that. Put a 35,36.5 and a 38.5 in the ol'frabill. Not only did I get them their 1st but a 2nd and 3rd..whoohoo for them! I missed a good fish with several head shakes. Today was all about them. Great day on the water. An honor to be able to net their fish. Water temps 56-59 degrees. Fish hit hard and all away from the boat. Head shakers and weed divers awesome day!

Went fishing with my 7 year old son and had a great time, he caught his first big fish there and won't ever forget it. We used bobbers and worms to start and then switched to a red and white wedding ring. Can anyone let me know it this was right or wrong, it seemed to work for us and he had a good time but for the future I want it to be right for the fish and us.

Fished Mayfield today. All day. Hot and calm. Water temps up to 63 degrees. Saw a bunch of big fish. They are all fat and lumpy for a reason. Lethargic big fish. Smaller fish were active several good follows but no hook ups. Did a bunch scouting for the Mayfield open next weekend. Thats about it. Mostly worked on my tan. Last day of my summer vacation. See ya, todd

We camped at Tacoma Power's Mayfield Park, choosing a site that allowed us to put the boat right next to the campsite. We had had a great evening the night before with a good dinner and beautiful sunset. The morning brought us a surprise: the lake really does drop two to four feet! We had received notification that this was a possibility but decided that we'd be OK. Wrong. Dan woke up about six and told me not to bother getting up because the boat was sitting high and dry. A little hard to get back to sleep, so I got up and inspected what was obvious from the pop-up trailer. The short version of this was that we noticed that the level was slowly rising (good news!). We had breakfast and played cards until about noon, when the water level was back up enough to muscle the boat back onto the lake. After lunch we motored back down to the boat launch and started fishing down towards the bridge. We no sooner had started then Dave had one on. A nice 14" rainbow with healed adipose. We continued towards the bridge just a short ways and Dave caught another rainbow (11"). He wanted to head back to where he had caught the larger one (very close to the boat launch) and so we did. Nothing. We trolled back and forth in that area for awhile longer and decided to go try Riffe.

Never fished Mayfield but wanted to try something different. While Dave drove back to pick up gas we had forgotten, Dan and I went exploring from the Tacoma Power's Mayfield Lake Park boat launch. We headed straight across the lake and saw nothing on fishfinder so headed down the lake to the bridge. Still nothing and so headed back towards launch staying in shallower water. Saw a fish hiding in some bottom clutter and let out a little more line and fish on! It was a nice sized rainbow (about 14"). Checked that adipose fin was missing and healed and put it in the box. Headed back towards boat launch and saw another fish, about 15' down and again picked up another nice rainbow (about 12"). Got back to the boat launch and got Dave on board and headed back trolling towards the bridge. Saw nothing and caught nothing for quite awhile and then got too shallow for our trolling and when moving to deeper water Dave caught the last rainbow (another 12") we would get that day. We were using different styles of pop gear with worms. Some used plain leader and hook while others tried different colors of wedding rings. It was fun fishing a new location and being able to get onto some fish. We looked forward to our next day.
