So... not so much a 5 star day in terms of keepers but.... did catch the first fish of the season a monster 6 inch smallmouth on a 3 inch weighted tube... than proceeded to catch his four twin brothers in the next four casts. So I enjoy catching fish and six inch fish are no different especially when you go 5 for 5 on casts. Still looking for bass fishing locations that are close to Vancouver so if anyone has any reccomendations I would love to meet up and hit the water.

Portland trip from Yakima had to be, so I took the pontoon and stopped at Horsethief. Pretty good day, weather perfect for this lake.
14 Largemouth from 8" to 6.75 lbs, 1 tiny walleye (11"), 7 smallmouth, and a bullhead on a crappie jig. Add a couple of sunfish, and that was my fishing. Mostly on top, but some on the retrieve after the topwater was steadily brought in, especially the smallmouth. Lots of fun!

Must have a float or a boat for this lake and look out for the beavers in this pond. It was nasty. You couldnt even cast far enough from shore. Lots and I mean lots of weeds. Needs to be cleaned out a little bit.

I broke my standing rule and fished opening weekend. Not many people at Horsethief, maybe 10 boats at the most and only 10 - 12 people on the shore. Fishing from the bank was slow to none. Out on the lake, the boats were picking up a few, with a couple of lunkers showing up. On Sunday I decided to troll the east arm with my pontoon boat and fins. Using a black wooly bugger with green tinsel I limited in about 15 minutes. All in the 10-12 inch range. At the same time a child about 6 years old, caught one of the holdovers on a little green "ninja turtle" fishing rod. Kinda cool. I checked the stomachs on all my fish and found only power bait.

It was great. we caught 10 to 15 smallmout bass in about an hour. We
were using a special tecnique. We had the whole lake to our self. it was
a great day. Our technique was purple lizards tipped with a sour gummy
worm.
