Took the kayaks out to Lake Aberdeen this morning to drown some worms and get my son some more seat time in his new Revo 11. Fishing was very slow most of the day. As we were thinking about giving it up and heading toward the boat launch I threw out "one more time" and hooked this guy. He was only in 6' of water near the edge of the bank. Not sure who was more surpized--me or the fish.

It's opening weekend so we decided to go out for a Sunday afternoon to catch some fish. We caught our limits the day before (with everyone else from Grays Harbor fishing in the opening day youth derby) and thought we'd try again for some more but with less people.

We got there at around 2:30 and it was sunny but cold and windy. Not very much luck right away, and we didn't see anyone else catching anything. We were fishing off the the "H" dock. After about 2 hours the sun disappeared and one by one the people I was with and I started getting a hit here and there and soon started catching quite a few fish. It was perfect by my standards, lots of action but spread out enough that you don't get your limit within 30 minutes of your first catch. We fished until about 6:30 and all caught our limits.

I didn't see many other people catching anything right near us, but across the way on the other dock I saw a few people catching some nice ones. Each fish I caught was around 8" and they all seemed to fight pretty hard for their size. A couple times I thought I needed the net, but when it came to the dock it was just another scrapper. They all taste good though, it was a good weekend overall. It was also very refreshing to have caught so many fish over the weekend (as I said, my limit both days as well as each person I was with who caught their limit) because last year the lake was terrible for catching fish. I'd say last year I caught 4 or 5, and usually I catch 4 or 5 each time out. I heard they removed the screen over the fish ladder last year and a lot of the fish swam down when it rained. Doesn't seem to be a problem so far this year!

Made the drive down to Lake Aberdeen from Auburn, got there early about 5:00am started fishing immediately and very first cast fishing on the bottom with Glitter Rainbow power bait and a slip sinker set-up with about a 4ft leader. BAMM fish on a real beaty 18" 3lbs. I kept missing fish for some reason but did catch a real beauty 21" and 5lbs. So all and all was a very nice day for fishing. That big fish made the trip worth it, but get there soon cause Lake Aberdeen get's pretty fished out after May/June... Thanks

First thing I want to apologize for the late report, this was me and my son's annual opening day of the lowland lakes opener excursion. We went to Grays Harbor Counties Lake Aberdeen, we fished from shore right alongside the big old waterpump (dockside), we arrived real early about 4:00am started to fish but didn't start getting any bites till around 6:30am. My son caught the first fish it was a small stocker about 12" and it was hooked right on the lip so we released it. Then I got a hit and set the hook and the battle was on, this beauty made about 7-8 runs, peeled off some line and we finally got it in the net, it was a beauty about 16' and 2-3lbs. Well that was just the start of our awesome morning, I hooked 3 more fish within about 2 hours time and each one was bigger than the last! The final fish was 18" 5lbs a real beauty, we were fishing on the bottom with a slip sinker and #8 Gamakatsu red hook, while using rainbow glitter powerbait. So I would have to say it was a fantastic opening day of fishing and one that my son & I will always remember. By the way a little tip if your gonna fish from shore at lake Aberdeen, definitely bring a very long handled net to reach out for those fish.
Thanks and have a great day

Well here we go again. The fishing was fast and easy got there at 5 am left at 5:15 am limits of planter trout. Didn't even have to wait to put the pole in the holder they were biting on the drop. The funny thing is there was only 2 other people there besides me and my bro inlaw. The one guy who is always there with his row boat with the cat in it yes a cat. Darn thing stands on the bow just like a dog would. The easiest way to fish here is to have a long leader at least 6' long it seems to put the bait up in the water where the fish can see it. Cast as far out as you can let the line drop to the bottom." If the fish will let that happen " and tighten it up. The bait colors didn't seem to matter yellow orange pink green we caught them on all of those. Gonna have to fire up the smoker this week!!!!!

Fished the T dock from about 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Lots of small trout to be caught and the bite was on all day if you fished it right. A casting bobber and a small jig worked the best all day. A small 1/65 ounce jig head with olive drab maraboou and a brown marabou tail hit fish all day long. Very small fish though and lots of soft hits.

Kids caught fish both on the bottom and on a bobber. Floating Power eggs worked all day with orange and yellow swirl getting the most bites. Bobber with worms worked well also but had to use at least a 2 foot leader and a a pink bead above the crawler to get steady bites.

Still lots of big fish to be caught but they have not been biting since opening day. Lots of bites every day but not a lot of takes.

Fish rolled all day long with the larger fish seeming content with eating bugs.

Wife and I went to the Ocean this weekend, did a tour of the lakes of Gray Harbor Co. while we were out there. On our way home, we checked out Lake Aberdeen. 1st drove into the main entrance, lots of swimmers and a sign that said "No dogs", since we had out dogs with us, this didn't work for us. We then found our way to the other side of the lake where there is a little boat launch. Only one other couple there having a picnic, nice, quiet, shaded. I tried both pb from the bottom and worm under a bobber. Got one bite from the bobber, but that was it in about an hour of fishing. This is another one I would like to try from a boat.

Got there at noon on the county park dock using green power bait skimmin the bottom. Weather was great cloudy and cool with a little breeze, not many people there at the time. After ten min got a nice bite and it took about 6-7 min to reel it in with my 6 Lb test leader on. Brought it up on the pier and then took off immediately with my prize, weighed it at around 9.5 lbs, nice size steelhead, All around it was a pretty good day.

Tried my luck at Lake Aberdeen this afternoon. The weather was nice when I got there but within a half hour the wind started to blow and then it rained a little. I was there about an hour and had my usual luck. I only caught two 7 inch planters. I know there are big fish here I just haven't been able to find them. I used chartreuse and white power eggs with about a 4' leader.
