I was fishing at 7:15am. But there was someone leaving as I came in and from talking with a guy on the lake he limited trolling.
It took an hour just to get the first bite. I tried many things. I also took temps. At 10 feet it was 64 degrees and at 29 feet it was 56 degrees. I started fishing deep after seeing that. So I hooked some rainbows that got off and the one that didn’t I kept. Then I found a sweet spot and picked up 3 kokanee one after the other. One set was almost a double. I got the deep one (fish) in and then lowered my stacked rod down to 26 feet. Before I could get the other fish out of the net my other rod had a fish on. Got that one in circled around and picked up one more. But that was it for fish in the boat. I had my first hit on the Dick Nite Watermelon dodger with a new Wannafish A Lure...Pretty in Pink variance. Then I switched out my other one for a Watermelon Dodger and a Pink Rainbow. Those 2 outfits are what I caught both the trout and kokanee on.
2 of the trout I hooked came in at the 26-29 feet level. Man was I disappointed. At one point I had a double on but lost both of them. So the best hooking was in the 8:30-9:30am range. All fish were caught at 26 or 29 feet. I only had 2 bite on the 16-19 level. It was windy when I got there but it calmed down while I was on the water and the shower came as I was getting off. I left by 10:30.

This was my first trip to clear this year, and was excited and hoping to catch my first koke. I wanted to try out my dual rod holder on the downrigger. It's also my first year for a 2 pole tag. Well I tell ya, stacking requires a lot more physical motion than I was ready for at 7:00am. After realizing how it works, I finally started catching fish, but couldn't put them in the boat. I lost 3 fish trying to net them at the boat. So I sat down to figure out what I was doing wrong. then it hit me, why am I netting a 10 inch fish. The next 3 fish were safely in the live well. All in all, I had a lot of fun. I caught 3 trout, and 2 kokes. I was at the west end, but did better on the south side. The line was 11 and 21ft, in 50-60 ft of water. Later in the day I dropped to 20 and 30ft on the line. I lost 3 fish while reeling in, I lost 3 kokes at the net, and put 5 in the live well. I started out with d.n. pink splatter dodger with bloody mary on one pole and d.n. chart hot head with orange thing (because I like the fire tiger blade) on the other. I also used pink splatter squiddy thing, and pink ice. They were all tipped with shoepeg corn, with either garlic or anise scent. I left at 11:15 all tuckered out.

There was a conspiracy to keep me awake last night. So I didn’t get up early like I was planning. At the launch I was met by the man who still fishes. He was there yesterday and said it took him 15 minutes to limit where it took me an hour and a half. Today he said it took him an hour and a half. It was slow.
I started fishing about 9am. I quit at 11:30 with only 2 fish. I tried several combinations. I did have 3 fish on close to the beginning of my endeavor but 2 got off by jumping. The 3rd one got away because some dummy laid the 2nd rod over the net. I did mention I was fishing alone?
The two I did get in were on 50/50 by Dick Nite with a well used Gilded Lily. The other came on a Dick Nite Watermelon dodger with a new color pink squid I was trying out.
It was sunny with a few clouds and much cooler than yesterday. The fish were in deeper water. The last one surprised me coming in at 16 foot of cable. The first one was at 22 feet of cable in the 60-70 deep area. I did slip a thermometer on the cable and at 20 foot was 58 degrees.

First post.
I hit the water shortly after 8. It was my second trip to Clear Lake. Last week I found how easy it was to find trout, trolled a fly tipped with a green label Pautske egg away from the boat launch and was releasing my first trout within two minutes.
This trip I wanted to target Kokanee. I kept 5 and released as many. By far the most effective method was pop gear and a pink wedding band tipped with maggots. I swear all of the fish were from the same mama. They may have been quintuplets. They were all the same size!
Great day fishing.

I waited to see if I wanted to go fishing in the morning until morning. So I didn’t set an alarm, hadn’t uncovered, or hooked up the boat. My gear was in the explorer all set to go. I woke up about 7 and was on the lake fishing by 9am. I finished around 10:30am. It had rained during the night but my deck was starting to dry up. The predicted wind and thunder showers had not arrived yet.
I brought a jacket but my insulated boots were keeping me warm and there wasn’t any rain, I only used it for a short time. The clouds were blowing overhead fairly fast as I set out my gear of Dick Nite Dodgers in Pick Splatter and Watermelon with Wannafish A Lure’s Bloody Mary and Pink Splatter Squiddy thing. There wasn’t any wind on the lake.
Got my first hit at 20 feet down but didn’t get it in. Set the gear out again, waiting for the next hit. It was a bit of time before I had another on and in the boat. It came on the Watermelon dodger and Pink Splatter Squiddy at 22 feet. I dropped the stacker down 10 feet more to see if I could get another and nothing happened so I took off Bloody Mary and put another Pink Splatter Squiddy on the Pink Splatter dodger. Dropped them down and got one at 22 feet again. Dropped down the stacker and got another at 21 feet. Then I realized that I was only getting them at the one level so I started just fishing one rod between 21-26 feet. It took about 45 minutes to get the last 2 fish. The wind did come up and it made it a little hard to maneuver. I fished most of the time on the west end trolling north and south. I ventured out toward the middle for a short time. Finally got my last fish who managed to tangle everything up so I was glad it was done. The biggest koke was just under 12 inches.
I came home to no internet, no cable, and no phone. But I had electricity and hot water.
And my local library had internet service.

Since it took awhile to get my first fish yesterday I slept in ½ hour more this morning. So I launched about 6:30am and lost my Pink Splatter dodger and Bloody Mary that did well yesterday on a snag. I retied a new lure that I had made and forgot about with another Dick Nite Pink Splatter Dodger. I don’t want to find myself without one of these. I once again used Dick Nite DNA in kokanee scent. My other rod had the Watermelon dodger and the Bloody Mary.

I caught my fish between 11-21 feet in anywhere from 50-70 feet of water in the 2 hours I was there. I worked the west end of the lake. Trolling north and south. The guys who still fish in the green boats really do get there limits fast!.
I caught my last kokanee, the smallest which became lunch, by trolling by the still fishers. The green boats were gone. I hooked 3 before I got the one in.

Lunch was potato salad, applesauce, and deep fried panko kokanee. This is a great way to use small kokanee.
In conclusion it was a very nice 4 days of limits.

I thought I was in for an easy day. I didn’t even put sunscreen on. I had hook-ups but could not get anything to the boat. Went all the way from one end of the lake to the other. Went past the still fishermen who arrived before me. They had one on as I swung by but it got off.
I headed back to the area I started off at. The west end and that is where I got them. I went back and forth and the Bloody Mary seemed to get more hits than the Pink Splatter Squiddy Thing. So I went to that on both rods with the same Dick Nite dodgers, Watermelon and Pink Splatter. Now I was trying to figure out why they were not committing to the hook and thought I am going to switch scents. I got at least the last 3 using Dick Nite’s DNA in Kokanee. I don’t know for sure if it was that or they just turned on. I got a double but lost the second one as I lifted it into the boat because I left the one in the net. It took about 2.5 hours to get my limit. I was there from about 6-8:30am. The fish I caught were in 36-50 foot of water and I got them at 17 to 21 feet down on the downrigger. They were 10-11 inches. Not a single rainbow today. The weather forecast said 84 for today. Did summer arrive before the 4th of July this year?

I met my brother, Richard, at the launch at 6am. But he got there a little after 5am. Just before I got there a guy with a Boston whaler type boat tried to launch. He was still there when I arrived but parked with the boat in the overload trailer area. Anyway as he started to launch, my brother thought that he might be handicapped because he was shaky when he got out of the vehicle to go to the back and push the boat off. He ended up falling over the trailer tongue with his but up in the air and his head under water. My brother grabbed him and got him out of the water. The guy was wasted! He mentioned he shouldn’t have partied the night before...ya think! Richard got my net and scooped up his phone and the credit cards that were in the lake. Gave them to him where he was trying to warm up in his truck. He left by the time I got ready and launched.

Kokanee_Slayer was there early and left quickly with his limit!

I had tied up 2 new lures to try. Gave one to my brother and he had a trout on in 2 minutes of putting it in the water by the launch. I used the other new lure and hooked fish, too. Of course I was still using those AWESOME Dick Nite dodgers in Pink Splatter and Watermelon. I even gave my brother a Watermelon dodger to use, also. He had just been using a 1/4 oz weight and the lure. We hooked many fish, several jumped and got off. He put on a 1/2oz weight and switched to a Bloody Mary and caught some more.

It was a good day of hooking and we did get our limit but a lot got off, mostly when they jumped. They were all in the 10-11 inch size. We were out there a little under 4 hours but about 45 minutes was waiting to get into the launch and then take the boat out. The sun was shining and there wasn’t a breeze. The forecast for today was 82.

Launched at 5:30 A/M and had my limit of Koks by 6:45. I was using my “Go To” set-up; Rocky Mountain Bahama Mama’s and a Pink Splatter Back UV Hoochies. Production was pretty good so there was no need to use anything else I had in my arsenal. I was marking Koks down to 27ft but they were hitting at 15ft on the wire with 30 pulls back. Trolling speed was 1.0 to 1.2. Lost 3 fish which was much better than previous trips – guess it paid to swap out hooks the night before. Beautiful morning on the lake and it was great to see Kokanee-Toni and her brother on the water.

I had the alarm set for 4:30am. I am excited for the mornings’ trip to Clear Lake since it will the first this year. Reality: Awake at 3:30am back hurts, I liked the chicken last night but my stomach didn’t. Therefore, I couldn’t sleep.
I don’t care I am going to chance it and go. I leave the house about 5:15am. At Clear 5:30am. Shock!! Not a soul there. I get everything ready and launch just before 6 and now the boats start showing up.
Right away I got some rainbows that got off at the boat. It can’t be helped, I guess, since the WDFW planted 14,800 of them in this small lake.
Then the fishfinder quit working as I troll down the north side of the lake. I unplug it and start it back up again but the screen only shows for a second. Drat! I will have to wing it on a prayer.
So I am over by the east end and south side when I get a fish at 11 feet. The sun is in my eyes as I am watching the rods and I figure it to be a bow. I am waiting for it to come off and it won’t. Remember I have been blinded by the sun and can’t really tell what the fish is. So I grab the fish that WON’T come off and it is a kokanee!
I go around in circles trying to get more bites but there isn’t anything. Then I think...I will try putting the fishfinder on my other battery.
After my previous outings I brought an extra battery and a paddle. I switched the fishfinder battery and turn it on. It works! Thank you, Jesus! Time to get rid of that other battery.
I am working the middle of the south side and I only have the one fish. I need to use the restroom so I angle that direction. I get to the middle of the lake, in about 60 feet of water, downrigger is stacked, 30 foot and 20 foot. I get a hit off the bottom clip. Get it netted and before I can get it unhooked my other rod goes down. Take that rod out of the holder and make sure the fish is still there. Dump the fish out of the net into the boat, then dip the net into the water and get my third fish. Rerig and try again. I have a few more bites but only one fish again. No more doubles. Total of four.
I have to use the restroom so I figure I will come back out for my last one. Now there are a lot of boats lined up to come in.
I get back in my boat to go get that one last one. Just past the first buoy going south and west in front of the tan high dive, I get one on in 46 feet of water at 20 feet. Now I am thinking this is a rainbow but as I get the net and the fish comes close I see it is a koke. Before I can net it (it is close to the boat) it jumps in to the boat! I am not lying! It had been jumping and it just jumped into the boat! What a day! My first day at Clear and my first limit of all kokanee.
I used Dick Nite Watermelon and Pink Splatter dodgers with Wannafish A Lures’ Pink Splatter Squiddy Thing (and a variance of it). It was blinding bright out but still cool. I fished from 6-8ish.
