Hit Benson Lake fairly early - overcast and a little breezy as I launched. Met up with nice guy, talented bass angler and WL.com member TM (Todd). We had a nice chat and caught a lot of fish during the talking. Unfortunately, we never caught any during the casting. I guess you might say, "I got skunked" but I prefer to think like a WL member posted a while back, "I enjoyed taking my bass gear for a nice boat ride." And, it was nice to meet up with Todd. The breeze increased to a point that I wrapped it up about noon. Tood was still casting after the big one when I left - Hope he got him.

Started fishing at 6am,the water clarity is fairly clear. Can see your lure from a good distance.
There was a bug hatch right next to shore between two docks and I could see fish jumping for bugs. So I sailed the rapala in there and watched one chase it down. Got a nice fight, but no
match for the power pro braid and 3 treble hooks on that rapala. 17" beaut. Pitched back in to the hatch and slam, a16" rainbow. Had one other small bass and one miss. Also ran into
EddieG and his fishing partner, they were nice to meet and also took photos for me.

After reading a report from Bob Johanson me and my gf decided to give Benson a try. We got there about noonish and as we were lauching we bumped into Todd. He had a nice 3lb bass and took a picture of him and the bass. As for us the fishing was slow. We had a ton of bites mostly from bluegills biting our worms. I had a 1.5lb bass on but lost it when it got to the boat. We did see a couple bass that were at least 5lbs but couldn't get them to bite. I did manage to get a 14" trout with my black 5.75" yamamoto kutail worm. That's only the second time I caught a trout while fishing for bass.

Up early (for an old dude) and on the lake fishing by a little after 6:00 AM. Mine was the first rig to pull into the public access but soon after another rig pulled in and a shoreline angler got out and set up for trout fishing. It was very foggy as I launched but no wind and the water surface was smooth as glass. With flat water, I love to toss Rapalas. Hooked 5 bass, all on Rapalas. Two of the bass were in the 3 pound range, one was in the 2 pound range and two were dinks, I was supposed to hook up with a fishing buddy at the lake but he called while I was on the lake and said he had to work. I was a little disappointed as I had a few nice bass in my cooler (live well) -- And, yes I do keep the fish aerated by pouring water from a large coffee can from about 3 feet above the cooler. Saw lots of spawning nests but none had any fish on them. I fished about 3 hours until a little breeze came up making boat control a little difficult. Back at the access, a shoreline resident was enjoying the sun with his dog and took a photo for me. He watched as I released the fish. They were all in good shape and zipped away briskly when released. It was a great morning on one of my favorite lakes.

The weather man finally predicted another dry day -- and some sun. Well it was a dry day and finally a little sun did came out. Anyway, I hitched up the small boat and headed for Benson Lake. Three trout anglers fishing from the shoreline and one boat out on the lake. The shoreline anglers had a few trout on stringers but I never talked with the trout fishermen out in the boat. It was overcast and a little windy as I launched. Mostly fished jigs. Fished almost the entire shoreline and had only one strike. Landed the fish, put it in a cooler of clean, cool water. It was weighed and measured for this report and was 16 1/2 inches and 2 pounds,11 ounces. Back at the boat ramp I had one of the trout anglers take a photo for me and released the fish. The trout anglers were amazed to see such a nice fish released. They had no idea that there was a slot restriction on bass. Anyway, only one strike, only one fish but overall a nice day on the water.

The weather man promised a nice warm, sunny day and he was right. After all the bad news chest X-rays and CT-scans, it was time for a nice relaxing day on the water. My neighbor, Mike L. and I headed for one of my fall favorites, Benson Lake. Benson Lake does not allow gas engines, has clean, clear water and very little aquatic vegitation. It also has a nice population of largemouth bass that I think are probably underfished -- mainly because bass boats with outboards are not allowed. Anyway, the wind was calm as we arrived and the lake was smooth as glass. I launched first and while Mike was launching, I made my first cast with a Rapala. Fish on! It was a nice 12 incher that I landed while Mike watched. Mike is a fly fisherman but after seeing the results of that first cast, he tied on a bass fly. He went north and I went south. I hooked several bass including a nice 171/2 incher. I must have hooked about 25 bass during the day. All but the 17 incher were on a floating Rapala. The 17 incher hit a jig. Most were small but besides the 17 incher I also boated a 16 incher and a 14 incher plus some others that were about a pound. I also had a great surface strike on the Rapala that turned out to be a nice 14 inch rainbow. The rainbow dove down and tangled with a big limb but with my braided Power Pro line, I landed both the limb and the rainbow. Mike caught some trout on his fly rod. Nice day on the water.
