got to south twin lakes on friday with my brother ron, and friends tom and bob, and stayed till wed. fished a lot. the funny thing about it was that the fishing was either stone cold, or absolutely on fire! on good days you could literaly throw out anything and catch fish, to include a lure made of pennies, while other times struggle for the littlest bite. most of the fish were caught on flies, i trolled a chartruce steelhead fly and caught a ton of fish. also the other guys found sucess with nymphs and muddlers. fishing from shore at the channel with rooster tails, i got 22, ron 22, tom 2, bob... 1. guess we had the luck that day. just kept the bleeders, the rest were c&r. best 5 days of trout fishing i have ever had. ever.

Well, we went to twin lakes for our annual fishing season kick off. We fished from saturday to tuesday, fishing "down by the rock" and in mallard bay being the most sucessful. Mostly we dragged flies and wicked willy spoons.Ddragged an apex one day and was successful with it. The lake had just thawed before we got there so it hadn't been stocked yet, so the fish were carryovers. They were around 15 to 18 inches, to include 3 brook trout over the weekend. The largest was tom's 4 lb wild rainbow.

Water was pretty murky, only about 4 feet of visibility. Water temp was about 57. We fished all weekend from one of the docks at rainbow beach. Fishing was ok on friday, but it was great on saturday and sunday. The trout are extremely healthy loooking. We caught a lot of trout in the 20"+ range. We caught 3 holdovers over 3 lbs and another over 4. The triploids are starting to move down the beach and we were able to bring in 2 on saturday evening and 2 more on sunday evening. The trips weighed 5 lb, 15 oz, 6 lb 9oz, 6lb 11oz, and 8lb 7oz. Overall, we kept about 20 fish, almost all of them at least 16".

Best combo was a yellow garlic mallow with spring green no sparkles powerbait. They were also hitting fluorescent orange and chartreue pretty well, both with no sparkles.
We also caught a fair amount on hatchery brown power eggs and 2 of the triploids came in on worm and bobber. If i can upload pictures later, I'll get a few up.

The best fishing was between 5 and 8 am, and after 6pm casting between the docks. However, we were getting bites all day.

My husband and myself deceided to stop and fish. Wev'e been going there for years on and off. This by far the best fishing day ever. We slamed them, trolling in front of the ramp where the plant the fish. We got a bunch of small ones. Until Bill caught the biggest trout that I have ever seen caught. 23in long and over 5 lbs. We fished all day and found the spot that had all the big ones. In total we landed 8 trout over 3-4 lbs. Some had that skin problem but the meat wes perfect. I'm not able to load my pic's ? I don't know why. But the bites on NOW

This report is going to be a recap of my trip over to our cabin on Twin Lakes for memorial day weekend.

Friday Afternoon:
Stopped over at Log Cabin earlier that morning for breakfast and the dude at the counter told us that they had just planted a couple thousand Trips out of Rufus Wood ranging from 5-14 pounds. We decided to give it a go for a couple of the big guys later that afternoon during a momentaty break from torrential downpours. We started off fishing south twin from shore with not so much as a nibble in over 2 hours. We fished slip bobber rigs and powerbait off the bottom but found no takers. The water level was a bit high and I think this may have had to do with out lack of bites, although can never be sure. We decided to call it quits on South Twin and headed back the other direction stopping to "look at" a couple other accesses along the way but we did not fish. Scoped out Carson Beach through the binoculars and noticed it was completely empty and decided to give it a go off the dock there. After about 45 minutes of fishing I got a nibble on powerbait 12" off the bottom and it was FISH ON, after a lengthy battly I landed a 6 lb triploid (pictured) which we through in the box for dinner. We fished a while longer with no other nibbles and eventually got stuck in a downpour and kept fishing till we got sick of being drentched. We were both surprised that we did not catch any smaller planter fish at either location, and that this big boy was the only fish of the day.

Saturday:
On Saturday evening we headed down to Lakeview Beach on North Twin to give it a go off of the docks. Fished slip bobbers and powerbait again and produced fish on both setups, although no lunkers! My grandpa landed a nice Brook Trout around 16" or so which we released, and we managed several other smallish trout, 4 planters and a nice 2 lb holdover rainbow but NO triploids. Quit fishing when the sun went down.

Sunday:
Fished about an hour and a half at the docks down at Lakeview with slip bobbers early in the morning and managed several more small fish and another one about 2 lbs. All fish were released. Although the rain had broken for the day the wind started wailing around 9:00am and we got blown off the water. The wind didn't calm down until around 10pm and we didn't really have a chance to fish after the morning outing although faired the wind for about a half an hour later in the day before relizing it was just un-fishable.

Monday:
Monday saw a little bit of everything from sunshine to biblical flood type rain storms. We hit a good gap in the early afternoon and decided to head over to Round Lake (a tribal members only lake located a few miles down the road from Twin). My partner was using powerbait and had set his rod on the tackle box to use as a rod holder. He landed 2 smallish brookies pretty much right off the bat, and after about 30 minutes more waiting his pole doubled over and started making its way off the dock and into the water. He lunged forward for the rod and missed it before it splashed into the water. He reached again over the edge of the dock and FELL IN! Over his head off of the dock! We all had a great laugh about the whole ordeal. When he came to the surface, rod in tow, I grabbed ahold of the pole to find there was still a fish on the line! I set the hook and the fish instantly jumped, a hefty triploid! After a long battle on 6lb line we landed a triploid about 7 pounds, really nice looking fish. We took him home and dropped him off to dry off and headed back out ourselves....

We headed back over to Carson Beach on North Twin to give it another shot and the weather was still holding up nicely. We fished powerbait for quite a while with no takers at all, not even a nibble. I was re-baiting and hucked a chunk of powerbait off the dock and about a minute later a fish swirled up and nabbed the bait about 2 feet from the dock!! After about a half hour more of soaking bait with no takers we decided to quit. My grandpa pulled in his line and threw his bait in the water and to out surprise the SAME fish swirled up and snagged his bait!! Quick thinking lead me to take the weight off my line and cast out just powerbait and swivel. The swivel carried the bait down very slowly right next to the dock and sure enough WAMMO he came swooping out and nailed the powerbait. Something neither of us had ever seen, we both got a good kick out of it. Fish turned out to be a nice male rainbow, about 2.5 lbs. He swallowed the bait so we had to keep him.

Overall we had a very fun trip. We were planning to hit Roosevelt for trout and walleye, but the weather would not allow us to get down to the river in that slippery mud!! They've also got the lake well drained out and most boat launches are well up and out of the water still. A few more weeks and the river should be in good shape to fish.

We started fishing around 8am in the channel between the two lakes.a couple small 1/2 to 1 lb bass off green spinner baits and a top water green and white frog fished through the weeds in 3 to 15 feet of water. About 10 am caught a few on the north side of north twin in the weeds. About 12 pm started fishing the south lake on the east side south of log cabin just about every cast with the top water frog got a hit, fishing any structure off the shore or pockets of weeds. Fishing a broke-back perch rapala Evan caught a nice 3 pound 'er that was cruising the shallows tossed a green spinnerbait onto the rock point by the dam and caught about a 5 pound 'er. Fished Split Rock nothing big but a lot of smaller fish. Fishing any cover, rock points and weed beds will produce bass.Twin lakes is on the Indian reservation so an $8.50 1 day permit is required which you can get from log cabin resort. The lake would hold a lot larger fish if people would practice catch and release.

One day away from the greatest lake I have ever been to. Me and my friend Travis are ready to kick off the summer the best way you can and he just graduated high school, Congrats. Hopefully this year will be as good or better than last year cause last year was by far the best one so far. Peace out everybody and can't wait to see my second family at Twin Lakes. SUMMER SUMMER SUMMERTIME TIME TO KICK BACK AND UNWIND.

Few fish still on beds.... seemed most are going into post spawn mode and you have to work to get any decent fish, water temp still low for this time of year at 63 degrees, weather has also been a big problem.... 80's one week and 28 degrees and snowing in JUNE! the next.... has the fish really messed up.

Hope the weather gets more stable and that will help with the bite .
Quit wishin and Go Fishin!!!!!

The wife and I made our yearly return to South Twin lakes and fished from 5-29 to 6-7 and we were not disappointed as usual we caught lots of planted & native trout in the 10 to 15 inch range trolling 3 colors of leaded line with muddler minnows & Martin reel magics tipped with a worm or power bait. The brook trout fishing was a little slow this year but they are there if you can find them. We have gotten to know some of the locals at the resort over the years (Patty & Kelley) and they convinced us to try Bass Fishing with them and we were rewarded with some very nice largemouth bass. My wife's first fish were 18 & 19 inches and weighed 4.2 & 4.8
pounds they were caught dead sticking with 5 inch watermelon senkos and were very exciting to catch being our first bass ever. There are a lot of large bass being caught there this year and with the generous limits of 15 fish per day it provides a lot of excitement. There is a slot limit of under 12 inches or over 17 inches on the lake and there are lots of fish in this range to be caught. We have included a couple of pictures of our catch over the week

spent the entire day on twin both north and south. Caught a lot of bass in the morning, but most the fish were small. a buddy on another boat caught a 4 pounder but other than that small fished afternoon got slow and evening more small bass. Tried everything, spinners, floaters, plastic worms and swim bates nothing brought the big ones. The temp of the lake had also risen 20 degrees in the last week could have messed with the fishing also. Fun time all in all.
