My son and I hit Harts lake today and on Saturday looking for some crappie. Fishing was very good with approx 40 C and R today and 30 or so C and R on Saturday. Most were smaller - probably around 6". Fished mainly on the north side of the lake near the green shed. We both used a very small red and white tube jig. Consistently caught fish for three hours both days. Fish holding around 25', even in the deeper water.

We started noonish today out from the state launch skirting the weed beds. I was fishing a rootbeer flake senko near the weed edges and docks with little luck. I got one bass about 1 1/2 lbs. After an hour or so we switched up to catfish gear and used some catfish bait I brought back from Texas on my last trip home. 2-3 hours and not even a nibble. We also fished the edges of the weed beds with nightcrawlers and bobber and jig no luck on the panfish. So much for fishing this side of the state for warm water species. Hart's lake in the early 90's was always a producer of crappie and cats.

The catfish have come few and far between recetly and after fishing on Sunday we found out why.

We need your help to bring back the channel catfish back to Hart's Lake. The Washington Dept of Fish & Wildlife stocked the lake for many years but recently discontinued due to a conservation group not wanting them planted in other pierce county lakes. The channel cats pose no harm and do not reproduce so the only way to continue to have them is to let the state know we want them back. You can email Larry Phillips a biologist with Washington state at Larry.Phillips@dfw.wa.gov or mail a letter to 600 Capitol Way N. Olympia, WA 98501-1091.

If anyone is interested I've also created a facebook page Hart's Lake Channel Catfish - Let's bring them back.

i went to harts the other day in the afternoon. I havent been there in years and i can say it hasnt changed much. beautiful day with only acouple other fisherman out there. its hard to find a place that you can go out on a nice day and not have to deal with speed boats and jet skis. Over all tryed alittle everything in my tackle box all the way around the lake and didnt get anything in the boat. I saw one guy pull in a small bass but that was it for the fish. I cant complain though beautiful day on the water.

Went to Harts Lake. Still in good shape, algae wise, but the bass fishing was not good. Fished the pads almost all the way around the lake. Fished top water, spinnerbaits, and plastics. Had one bite on a black w/ blue fleck Stick-0, but it did give me a 3.0 largemouth, which is pictured. But that was it.

Don't waste your time was on the water for 3 hrs trolling and not a single hit... The water was 71 with an alge bloom... Probably why the fish are not biting...There was one other boat and a few fishing from the bank and I didn't see any fish landed...
