Hit the water about 10 am.Started out slow.Made the first pass around the lake without a bump.I had started out with a cultiva mira shad. Then I saw a few fish sippin bugs off the surface,so on goes my floating Daiwa Dr Minnow and so the fun begins.I started off picking up one or two here and there.I tossed them back at first.I then found one spot in the lake that was just amazing.my fishfinder showed some heavier weed cover, the fish alarm would start beeping like mad and bam fish on over, and over, and over.most of them in this particular spot were the jumbo fish that they stocked recently.I figured I'd take a limit of these 13-14 inch fish for the smoker.I had 3 on the stringer at the time when my rod goes down real hard pumping and screaming out line.I had hooked into a very hard fighting broodstock rainbow that amazingly looked rather bright.Of course I brought the wrong net which I can't get half of him into so I slip a finger under his gill and pitch him into the boat.Probably the longest I have ever battled one of these things, but then again on a 6 ft light action rod.

Cold and windy but we persevered. I wanted to take the boys out for the first trip of the year. Had some decent action nothing large just stock trout but its fishing. Good day fishing I can't wait till the weather is better.

Rolled in at about 9:30, I'd never seen Matoon with so many people. Fished from shore for about 3 hours, had a follow on a Texas rigged vibra grub, and had a small trout buck off of the same set-up but smaller sized grub.
A lot of people fishing for trout, didn't see many caught though.

Arrived at about 8:30, walked the edge of the lake almost the entire distance around. I caught more than 10 LMB, the biggest at 11". I used a drop shot the entire day, it seems to be the only thing I have much luck on in this area. Oxblood Roboworm or some reaper style baits in chartreuse worked best today . The bass in this lake are real shore watchers, so after noticing I started casting from farther back on the bank.
Average day, caught plenty of fish but nothing worth bragging about.

The fishing for bass is slowing down, they are becoming lethargic. only caught a few monster 5 inchers. The trout however has picked up, and they've grown! My dad caught 2 fish using powereggs. One was 12", and the other were 12.5". It suprised me how healthy they looked.

Caught 4 bass around 9" and a dozen more not worth noting on an original floating rapala and a pumpkinseed sunfish on a roostertail. My dad caught 2 trout bottom fishing, both around 10".

Best day bass fishing of the year, caught a few on small curltail grubs in the beginning, Then changed to a floating rapala- that was the ticket. Caught alot of bass. Nothing huge but caught fish consistently, with 5 over 8". The funniest thing was when I goofed up casting and the lure went out only a few feet in front of me, and a solid 10.5" bass hit it, which suprised me. A fun great day. Sorry that the pic is black and white, I don't know why.

A friend and I arrived at about 10:30. The water was quite green, I decided to leave the pontoon in the car.
Fished from the dock for 30 minutes, caught 3-4 LMB dropshotting a Powerteam Melon tickler worm, the largest was about 10". My guest caught his first bass of the year on a white rooster tail. Walked around the lake, catching 6 more bass between us but nothing much more than 10". We both caught several broken off lines, and caught a bass with someone elses worm hook lodged deep in his gut with the line still attached. I was amazed at the amount of broken off rigs in the water and on the shore.
Might hit this one earlier next year before the lake looks so green.

Caught about 10 bass today. All babys except for one small 8 incher. Used a plastic curltail grub, yelllow and white worked the best (The water clarity is down a bit, hard to see any other colors." Caught a baby on a gold mepps. My dad and sister each caught a trout fishing off the bottom with powereggs, the trout were around 12". Almost lost a fish to a muskrat, so if you use a stringer beware.
