Great day at Blue Lake. My daughter and I went fishing for father's day week-end. The smallmouth pictured was one of many bass we caught over the week-end and it weighed 3 lbs. what a fight it put up. When we netted it, it upchucked a rainbow trout fry about 4". When we went back to shore, I talked with Jeff at Blue Lake Resort and he said the state had recently stocked the lake with fingerlings. I told Jeff that I was going to e-mail the state fisheries to let them know that the bass are going to wipe out all these fry, Jeff said the state fisheries knows that. What a waste of our license fees. In years past, the state has killed all the fish in Blue Lake to get rid of the spiny rays (which also kills the trout) then they restock the lake with trout. I have heard that residents of Blue Lake will catch bass in other lakes and bring release them in Blue Lake because they want bass in the lake to catch. Well, if you want to catch some bass, go to Blue Lake. Most of the bass we caught were on the south end of the lake near Blue Lake Resort in the shallows.
We used black grubs with shiny specks.

Took a break from bass fishing the local area lakes and went fishing for trout at Blue lake from shore using pink power eggs. Took a couple in. Also hit some pumpkin seed sun fish around docks and rocks using bits of rubber worm on a size 10 hook, Mr. Crappie bobber and a split shot weight. C&R about 10 of those good looking fish. Weather was cloudy and rain at times with no wind! Surprising!

Fished Blue lake as we always do the weekend before Mem wknd.

I must say the fish are not as plentiful as some of the past years, but what you do catch ( rainbow's speakng of ) will be some of the fattest, strongest, and best eating fish you have caught in a while. 14" to the occasional 17" with a single 19'er was the norm all through the weekend.

We stay at the Blue lake resort down on the south end. Nice place for the money. Where else can you park your trailer 10' from the waters edge for 22 dollars a night I think it was. ( no sewer up by the water though. Water and power only ).

About the fishing. We trollers caught bow's close to the surface in the early morn and just before last light at the end of the day. Small spoons or rooster tails with a small to very small split shot a couple of feet from the lure will do it. Enough speed to make the spoon wobble or spin the blade on your rooster tail, wedding ring etc.. Troll the shallows early or late in the day or add some more wieght and go deeper down the middle in the hot part of the day. The power bait guys caught fish also with some having to move several times before finding some fish. No need to expand on that. One lucky lady with us did catch a 26" 5.5 lb german brown off the bank behind our trailers. Biggest fish at the resort so far this year we were told. That beauty sucked up a power bait set up with fire corn for bait that I assume was just sitting on the bottom since that stuff don't float, but that was the only brown caught. Fish fry one day and baked trout, including the big brown the next. Fillet those babys, coat with jiffy corn muffin mix, and fry them up. Best camping food ever.

My son and I fished blue lake this morning. The lake was still, and easy to troll. We had lots of wind the previous day. We trolled in the upper ten feet with small spoons, and trout killers. We fished for about 2 hours and got 6 very rainbows all between 13 and 15", and they all weight a little over a pound each.
Sorry , but I don.t have any pictures. The lake was not stocked this year, so these were all left overs that why they were so big and fat.

Fished Blue for 1 night while I was over there for bass fishing at banks sunday through today. Fished Blue last night and caught A nice bow on pink powerbait carolina rigged. Every year after the labor day crowds and summer crowds have gone the fishing picks up again. There where trout jumping everywhere on the glass surface around my boat near dark. So I threw my trout floating rapala on the surface in the deep and got a lot of followers and finally a trout blew up on it. The one in the pic is the one I caught on PB. I was only out on the lake for about an hour and a half before it was pitch black out. Last september I caught many trout after labor day it was a blast. Heading back over on sunday for a week to fish banks and blue. All fish C&R.

Went to Blue to spend some nice hot days there. Arrived sunday july 15 and came home today july 20. Monday was the best day as I caught 7 smallies. All ranging from very small to about 2 pounds. The ones in the pics are the biggest ones I caught. Used a brown trout floating rapala in shallow rocky area along the shore in my boat. As monday passed i caught less and less as the week went on. But still had a blast catching those smallies. They where all great fighters and jumped really high above the water. It was great. The weather was very hot in the 90s and had one overcast day which was great for fishing. The smallmouth fishing on Blue is great the last couple months. I have had more smallmouth action on this lake than Banks lake this year. It sure beats catching those scarce trout in Blue. I just wish they wouldn't kill the lake off because Blue could be a great little bass lake if they just gave it time.

Just got back from my folks place on Blue. Spent 3 days there. All where nice except tuesday when it rained for a good 12 hours. Caught some small mouth on floating rapalas and buzz baits. It was a blast. Targeted shallow rocky areas and retrieved slow. Even got a few rainbow trout on the rapala just right off the drop off. I surprised on catching the trout since its been so slow here on this lake I gave up on them awhile back. I caught and released all fish. Spent a day at Banks lake also but didn't do to well there again. Those german browns love those floating rapalas also in the shallows. Those lures are great. Had a great time and will be back in 2 weeks!

Went to my folks place on Blue lake for the last 3 days. Fished blue all day yesterday and on sunday night when I got there. Fishing was not good. Fished for bass with no luck. I think the water is still to cold for those guys to bite. I caught 2 bows in my boat and nothing from shore. I didnt see anybody catch anything except a 4 inch trout and a bullhead. I was using power bait and mellows and eggs. Saw some big german browns near shore cruising around tuesday night which was great but no luck catching those. Weather was cloudy mostly and lots of wind all 3 days but the beer was cold. Went to Banks lake on monday for bass and didn't do to well there ethier. I heard they dumped in a bunch of these little very small trout this year on blue but I don't know why. I also heard from one of the rangers from the area that they might be killing the lake off this fall. I think its true since they haven't killed it for awhile. Of course I will be back. Thanks for looking.

Fished Blue Lake 5/19-5/21 all different hours of the day. We trolled numerous lures, pop gear, etc. And bank fished. Three fish all weekend, between 8-11 inches. After 10 years of coming here every year in May, we are considering looking elsewhere. It seems like it gets worse every year. Its a shame, because our family loves this lake and it's scenery. We've taken fish up to 6 3/4lbs from Blue Lake. Hope it turns around soon.
