We booked a trip with 'Darrell and Dad's' guide service out of Chelan. We stayed in the owners house at "The Fisherman's Hideaway" unit and it was spotless clean and very comfortable. Started at 6am and quit about noon. Weather was clear and cool but got quite warm. We caught 7 Mackinaw, the largest around 4lbs and the rest averaged about 3 lbs. The guide 'Jeff' worked hard from the moment we started until we left to see to it we had a great trip.

I went out Saturday morning with a few buddies to do a little scouting for Lake Trout. I had been giving the Lakers a pretty good break for the last month and a half or so while we were chasing Kokanee. We hit several spots and got a pretty good idea where the fish were hiding. We were just starting to think about pulling the rods in and calling it a morning with we got our final hit of the day! After a good battle we put the fish in the boat. She weighed in right at 14.5 lbs! Great way to end a day! The big fish hit a baited Ace Hi-Fly pulled tight to the bottom at about 1.4 mph. The Trench and Yacht club were the most productive for us this morning.

The lack of fish boated is more likely a sign of my inexperience than an indicator of the fishery, we've all see the reports ;)
It was more of an exploratory trip for my brother and I. we launched the boat and slept in the cabin friday night, trolled a few different spots and explored up the lake some, but eventually caught fish trolling the bottom in 150ft of water with a larger flat fish covered in smelly jelly. Great day, some nice boats out there and my first makinaw :)
Learning the new boat but getting her dialed in, and bloody!

Lake Chelan Laketrout bite has been good in the Trench, Mack Bar and Minneapolis Beach. The Ace Hi-Fly again was the best bait. We kept our baits next to the bottom to get the fish that were hungry. Thanks so much to my group today. Tight Lines to all and be safe!

With family and all, it has been hard to keep up. Thanks to everybody for fishing with us. Colyar ledge just keeps on producing great numbers. Mack's Lures Cha Cha Squidders, Silver Horde's Kingfisher Lite spoons and Worden Lures T4 Purple Glow Flatfish all produce. The key is to keep them tight to the bottom in 230 to 330 feet of water at about 1.5 mph. This morning bite has been amazing in it's consistency. We like the wack a pile at the top of the trench for late mornings and the face of Manson Bay for evening work. The same presentations will work in all locations. Take Care.

Lake Chelan remains good fishing for Laketrout in the Lower Basin. The Ace Hi-Fly in the glow colors has been the baits that the fish want. Troll this bait next to the bottom at all times to be productive. Rufus Woods is heating up. Cast spinners and spoons to the shorelines and Troll Wooley Bugger Flies on the surface for you chance at catching the biggest rainbow of a lifetime. Thanks so much to all that fished with me over this reporting period. Tight Lines to All and Be Safe!

The front pushing all that wind blew us off Colyar ledge so we had to play whack a pile for a while. Then things settled down to a steady downpour. Fellow Vet, Ken Bowen and buddy Bill McMichael came out with me. We had a great time pulling Mack's Cha Cha Squidders and Silver Horde's Kingfisher Lite spoons. Not a Chamber of Commerce day, but great fishing none the less.

JoAnn and I had the pleasure of fishing with Jeff Witkowski, who is a guide that works with Anton Jones of Darrell and Dad’s Family Guide Service. Our target was Lake Chelan Lake Trout.
We left the launch at 6am and ran over to the Yacht Club area, fishing some spots that have been very hot for lakers lately. It turned out to be a good day for fishing and catching.
Because this was a video production day, we only ran two rods off downriggers, and that reduced our numbers a bit, which was OK, because we still did well, catching eight fish ranging from a tiny 1.5 pound fish up to around 3.5 pounds. Yesterday Anton’s boat landed a ten pound fish so there are some better ones out there. Today Anton’s clients caught 14 fish, running 4 rods. Both trips were 6-10am trips.
Depths we fished ranged from 200 to 330 feet. All I can say is, I’m sure glad I didn’t have to deal with running the downriggers . It’s way too much work! My hat is off to those guides fishing for these Mackinaw trout.
Jeff was a lot of fun and JoAnn and I really enjoyed our morning fishing with him. Stay tuned for the video!
*My wife requested a "smiley face" for her picture, LOL.
