me and a buddy made the beatiful hike up to the lake. brought a couple poles for the heck of it. tried fishing the far side of the lake below the boulders. saw lots of fish but not as much as a bite. tried various lures and baits even caught a grasshopper and tried it. water is very cold. Probably would have had better luck with a fly pole and at the opposite end where you first enter but the mosquitos are dense there. flies and bug spray next time! always a cool lake to see.

i hiked into lake twenty two today, it was pretty good except the last half mile or so of the trail is entirely in snow and maybe only one fourth of the lake has thawed out. After hiking to the top with the extra gear i thought id go ahead and give it a try. I tried a bunch of spoons and spinners then fly fished for a while and never saw a single fish. Other than the fishing it was a great day and ill be back as soon as the snows gone

Beautiful hike to a beautiful lake. Left at first light and headed up the trail. Fairly easy hike up to the lake, there are a few slippery rock spots but other than that it's very friendly. Got up to the lake and it was still pretty dim out. Walked around the whole lake till the sun came up. There were fish rising everywhere but none of them were hitting. Finally found a honey hole in a deep spot of the lake. Just threw some small dry flies at them and probably caught upwards of sixty fish. It was an awesome time and I will be heading back up this year.

The hike was worth it...beautiful lake. Not much luck at the back of the lake by the boulder field, found a hole in the front, and caught fish non-stop for about 2 hours. From 8"-12"...and one nice one about 17".

There is still some snow up there at Twenty Two. I caught 1 fish on a spinner bait and had some other bites. It was not too good as the lake was still partially frozen over.

I went up to lake Twenty Two for something to do and decided to bring my pole along to do some fishing once I got up there as well. The hike was pretty easy until I ran into snow about 3/4 the way up and that slowed my progress down as the trail got narrow, covered with snow and was right along a dropoff so I had to take my time so I didn't slip off into the river that it was along.
Once you get to the lake you will be amazed by what you will see. The whole place is covered by about 5-6 feet of snow in some places. Almost the whole lake is covered in ice so there really is no point of fishing until it thaws out because the good fishing hole was iced over. I tried to fish in this on thawed out area but not one bite. It is dangerous because you have to walk out of ice to fish. The ice I was standing on caved into the lake and I barely jumped back on land! It would have been a VERY miserable hike back down if I hadn't gotten back to shore in time. But, for just a hike it is awesome. The view is great up there and they lake view is awesome. It is crystal clear.
I would wait until August to start fishing this lake, the fish aren't active and the lake is frozen over.

Hiked up to Lake twenty-two on August 24, 1998.
Hit the lake about 9:00A.M. and stayed 'till 3:00P.M. We tried worms and power bait off the bottom and got some bumps but couldn't convert any.
Switched over to some dark nymphs, Grey Hares Ear, and a small black midge, and caught and released a small, 5 1/2 inch Rainbow for our trouble.
Had a great time though. The scenery is spectacular and weather was good.
Kind Regards
Rick & Carla Thomas
