I hit Lake Ki at 5:20am! The water was like glass! I launched my Kayak from the launch point off of Lakewood Road. The bait for today was powerbait. By 6:20 I had landed 4 trout, 2 were almost 14"! By 8am I had #5. They were very active - lots of them breaking the surface. Trout #4 put up a nice fight too! I also lost one before I could get him to the yak. Great morning for Kayangling on Lake Ki!

Trout action continues to be consistent on this lake. I use a single tiny split shot and a fly OR a little larger split shot and two yellow power eggs. I troll the fly as slow as possible. The power eggs I cast out and let sink to the bottom, if I don't get bit I row a few times and stop allowing them to sink again, I'm not sure this will ever not produce?! So far if I wanted to I could limit out every time I wanted to using the power eggs!

I release all fish at the boat so no pics and yes I only catch 5 if I'm using bait....usually takes less than an hour.

Kicked my little Jon boat into lake Ki this morning to see if I could scare up a largemouth? I have yet to even SEE a largemouth on this lake so far this year??? That would be the case today as well, I threw everything I could think of that I've had success on in the past on this lake and didn't even get a little one to nibble?! I've lived on this lake for the past 5 years and don't recall it getting killed off? Maybe it just needs to continue warming I don't know but I won't fish it for bass again any time soon....trout on the other hand, see next report!

Well, after putting the big boat away and getting the yard work done I slipped out on Ki to see what the trout were up to? They were pretty active as I had the first fish on in less that 20 feet of trolling. Ended up hand releasing 7 at the boat, long line releasing 5 and had countless bites. I was using a very small black spinner and zero weight trolling just fast enough to spin the blade, it definitely seemed the slower the better as the sun set.

Trout are still more than willing on this lake! Had a couple hours so I trolled around a bit and caught fish on spinners and Kastmasters. Also had a osprey almost drop one in the boat as it flew over after slashing down about 20 yards off the boat! Pretty cool and managed to avoid the rain. Back to bass fishing tomorrow though!

Brought out the 10ft boat and trolled a homemade spinner and a 50/50 dick nite spoon. No need for bait as the fish were biting like crazy. Everyone on the water was catching like it was opening day...

Note: Parking is terrible and is on the side of a busy road. Beware of traffic.

After taking the Grand Kids to Westport last Saturday for their first exposure to razor clamming and crabbing, I decided to stay close to home this weekend so my friend Joey and I hit Lake Ki for the first time in almost 2 years. On arriving, I was really surprised to see only about a half dozen boats on the water. Anchoring my canoe in the first of my "go to" spots we were both able to limit out in a couple of hours using Garlic Power Bait. Although these fish were not big, for "planters" they were quite chunky and scrappy. These were the first fish of the year for both of us as work, the weather, and family obligations have not given us much time to get out on the water and it felt good to feel that tug on the end of our lines.

After having to net one fish twice I discovered that my trout net had several holes in it which were probably caused by my using it to net a dozen or so Humpy's a two years ago. Since this year is another Humpy year, I guess I'm gonna have to go out and get me a real salmon net before they start showing up later this summer.

Lake Ki was hot on Saturday. Everything was in the 10" range, but some of them were pretty fat.

C&R'd everything. All were solid lip hooks. None of them got ballsy and decided to gut the hooks, which is always nice.

Started off with trolling. I had some light pop gear with a wedding ring. Smaller night crawlers on the hook. My buddy was pulling a fly most of the time, though he did catch a few on a green/silver ~1.5" spoon. Everything we tried was equally as effective. The east shore seemed to have the most activity.

Oranger powerbait seems to work real good. Anchored up a ways out from the boat launch when our battery got low, and pulled a few more in.

Didn't snap any picture of the fish. You all know what a 10" RB looks like haha.

After my failure at Martha Lake decided to try my "go to" lake. This time I had my worms, but it did not seem to matter. Had lots of strikes but nothing stuck. Got one perch to the boat but got off. Fished from 8-11am. Most hits were on the pop gear and had a couple more on wedding rings tipped with worms. Also got a couple strikes on a flatfish.

Headed out to Lake Ki for an afternoon of fishing. Landed my first fish of the year on a black Wooly Booger in the first 20 minutes. Put him on the stringer and continued on my way. About 10 minutes later I look down and my stringer was empty. Somehow this fish pulled a Houdini and got away to fight another day. Paddled to the far side of the lake and anchored on one of my go to spots. Picked up a nice 12"er right away. The next 1/2 hour was dead so I paddled back to the highway and anchored in my other go to spot and limited out in about an hour. Nothing big, but a nice, Lake Ki, limit. The weather was nice, though a bit windy, which made paddling solo tricky at first but once I was able to get into a rhythm, all was good.
