Was in Leavenworth for a couple days, decided to take the rod and reel to icicle creek to catch some wild rainbow trout. Stopped and parked just after the county road ends. In 3 hours of fishing, I hooked onto about 7 trout, all around 9 inches or so. Man, do these fish know how to jump! I had one that got off the hook, stuck around for a few seconds, and taunted me by jumping at least 2-3 feet in the air.

I also saw a salmon following my lure a couple times, but no strike.

I tried doing some dry fly fishing from Lower Johnny Creek Campground on Icicle Creek. I was using a damselfly pattern and dead-drifting it; aiming for the slack water behind rocks and boulders, In fact I didn't have enough back casting room from shore, so I had to fish from boulder to boulder. I ended up catching 6 good looking wild, native rainbow trout within two hours. I'm not sure if there is anything besides rainbows in this creek. Though small (average: 7 inches), these trout were still fun to catch, especially on a dry fly! My friend caught a 9.5 inch fish on a silver size 2 Blue Fox spinner. That was the biggest fish of the day, of course. There are tons of wild rainbows in this creek, and I have to say they are relatively easy to catch on a dry fly (as long as you are a proficient caster). Just remember to aim for areas of the creek that have little or no current(behind rocks/boulders). 80% of all fish that you hook will jump spectacularly for their size! Aside from the occasional 9-10 incher, most fish in this river are small, so don't consider fishing this river if you want to catch dinner, however it is a great fishery for the fly fisher or ultra-light spin fisher. Remember,in order to fish Icicle Creek you will need a Columbia R. Salmon/Steelhead Endorsement and selecitve gear rules (single, barbless hooks/no bait). Both apply to the entire creek. Also all waters downstream of the fish hatchery are closed. Good luck!

My buddy Chris and I tried for some springers yesterday evening. The river was a bit high, but still fishable. We flogged water on the corner hole for about 2 1/2 hrs. Never had a take, but I suppose the fishing will improve with some warmer temps. Thankfully the hole is not too snaggy yet. I loath the thought of getting up early to fish the hole, but sacrifices must be made.

Caught 6 Coho. Fowl hooked 3 of those. Spent about 90 min fishing with spoons in various spots below the hatchery. Tons of fish, most dark like the pic shows. Didn't keep any all C&R. Had a good time fishing, no one around and as you can see fishing in the snow!!! Season ends for the Coho on the Icicle this sunday. All fish put up a good fight!

Was bored this morning and decided to drive to 11worth... Went to the fish hatchery again, this time to find two others fishing which was a change for me. One had his last one on for his limit and the other only caught one so far. So I decided to stay and fish a while (1.5 hrs). The weather was crappy (great for fishing), cold, rainey and snow looming all around. I caught 2 and I didn't want them so offered them to an angler down stream and he gladly took them. All was fun and the Coho's are thick up there.

Went to the Icicle on Saturday and scoped things out... Found tons of Coho and no one fishing so I figured it was time to make another trip on the next day I had off. Got up there around 130 and fished till 4. Caught 4 Coho and 1 Native Steelhead. I had a good time! River closes on the 15th so a couple weeks left of solid fishing.

Fished stump hole all morning from 4:30 until 11:00. Hooked one 30 lb + fish and fought him for half an hour. One of the best fights of my life. The high water and swift current made it all the harder to get him in. Saw several other nice Chinook caught while we were there. I will definitely be back again. The bait of choice was plug cut herring behind 8-12 oz. of lead.
