main line suggestions

im gonna be drift fishin and i was wondering, does the color of the mainline matter? will high-viz get me less fish than low-viz line? im gonna be using a fluoro or maxima leader btw, and maybe some suggestions on what line is good?

nope, does not matter what color main line as long as you have a clear leader or low viz leader to be exact. Big game, Izor, and suffix are some of my favs in 12-25lb test

Go with 12 pound maxima ultra green. High vis isn't worth it. These fish are line shy, and if you really don't need it, don't bother, because if they can see it, they'll avoid it. The last thing you want is fish running away from your line instead of towards it. My 2 cents at least. I know plenty of guys that swear by it, and a lot of those guys stand next to me while I'm throwing 6 pound test, and wonder why I hook 5 fish and they go home skunked. Go as light as you can get away with, and get a long rod with the bend in it to throw the light gear.

I'd go with low viz. Like Nate said these fish are line shy. Sometimes they'll totally swim of if they see you're main line.

hey thanks guys great tips, ill go with low vis, i ont really need the high vis cuz my eyes arent that bad... yet... lol but what lb test should i use for main and leader lines? gonna fish the puke and nisqually mainly, on a curado 300ej and 9ft mod action rod

I run p-line cxxx moss green for main line and the flourocarbon for my leader. the flourocarbon completely disappears in the water. for steel I run 10 and 8 with salmon 17 an 12. good luck

I like a insurance when it comes to line, 20lb main and 15-17lb leaders for kings and 12-15lb main and 10-12lb leaders for coho.

when you see guides using the hi viz main line its because 4 dudes on a 20 foot sled all drift fishing tend to tangle lines, the more visible the line the easier to stay clear of each other when casting and drifting.. thats actually what i was told one time fishing with a guide as well.. ever since then i stopped using hi viz line when fishing from shore by myself and my hookup rate increased.. i think it was a combination though of not using hi viz line and some new tricks i learned form the guide.

basic red ,orange,peach.,chartuce bonkers is a expert at corky color for king and silvers i throw hardware or bait not much of a corky guy

me liky the orange, red and pink corkies with some salmon feast or shrimp scent for coho and green scale with sparkles with green yarn for kings but I go with just white yarn with my eggs when fishing for kings. I started doing more of the jig twitching and spinners for coho lately but buy some 8mm red, glow in the dark or pink beads, those can work charms when tossed in pockets or in front fresh kohos with some black or white yarn, #2 hook and 3-4ft leader drift fished on the bottom and hold on the bites can be either subtle or obvious so be aware.

But I switched to braid on my casting set ups for salmon and am not going back. I prefer 30# power pro in moss green color. Kinda pricey, but if taken care of properly, one can get multiple seasons out of it. Leader material varies. In my leader wallet I have 24 pre ties. Some with Corkies and yarn, some for eggs, and some naked leaders. Anywhere from 8-20# line. For kings, 15# is about normal I'd say. I like 12#. Coho 8-10# leader.

If you have mono and you get crossed up with someone that has braided it will tear into your line.

I agree with hookedonfishing. If your using braid and get tangled with someones mono it will mess up there line and make them pissed
