little fish invasion

Postby donater » Mon Jul 30, 2012 8:49 pm

I went to reiter today and got about 4 canisters of sand shrimp jacked by random trout. Made me wonder if a bunch of little fish are in the center of the river is a sign that the big fish r not present? I remember hearing when i was a kid that when perch are present there are no bass and thought maybe this is similar.

I was there all day today and saw a total of 5 fish caught on the hatchery side in 14 hours....

The big fish are there. The water is getting lower and super clear the bite slows down . When the water gets a little lower we will all be standing on rocks looking down at them and seeing them all over the place throwing everything we have bouncing it off there heads and they will show no interest what so ever. Its crazy ....

I dont know about the presence of perch meaning there are little to no bass. Bass large and small mouth eat perch, and in some places I fished back east the only thing in the water seemd to be perch and large mouth. if you find an aboundance of small-medium perch, chances are you will find Large large mouth close by. Also bass and perch compete over shallows, bass want to spawn, perch look for hunting grounds. In the bass spawn when they wont hit crays, or smelt, they will destroy anything that looks like a perch, not cause they are hungry, but becuse the perch will eat bass row.
I belive if you find alot of small fish, your gona find larger fish preying on them near by. Alot of times when I fish a stream or river I'll look for fry/minnows. When I can see them close to shore, that usualy means a predator has chased them up into the shallows. You might have landed on an eel hole?
