Some people would think 'snagging' is always on purpose. 'snagged' would be the same as 'foul hooked' in this case. As in 'hooked outside the mouth'.tnj8222 wrote: Im convinced drift fishing is snagging in the mouth. Unless someone has some underwater footage this debate will go on forever. As a person that has caught steelhead drifting corkies my responce would be "you prove it". They all felt like bites to me. Here we go with round "x" of the great flossing debate. Hang on to your hats.

I can tell ya in over 30 years of fishing Ive done all the above and seen it done many times. Heck I seen bass attack a swim bait that has 2 treble hooks on it and get stuck everywhere but inside the mouth. Why is that never talked about negatively? Just curious thats all.

Multiple species, trout, bass, sunfish, perch and yes salmon. It happens trolling, casting lures, drift fishing, bobber fishing, ice fishing, pretty much any method where the tip of the hook is exposed. All fish species "slap" a bait from time to time and get hooked. SO, if you've never caught a fish other than the hook being neatly hooked from INSIDE the mouth you either don't fish much or maybe you just use power bait for trout. Scratch that one, yep, I've caught trout with power bait, outside of the mouth also.
