Coho reports in A9 and 8-2?

Still hit or miss for most folks. Lots of resident coho from 4-7 lbs making up a good majority of the catches with a handful of nicer ocean coho. We fished every morning/evening for the past few days and had a few skunings but also found a few fish to bite. The trick for us has been to troll fast and cover ground, and hit those rips when you see em. We've also been finding fish deeper, got one this morning at 50' at sunlight and another at 100' @ about 8am.

For those interested in pinks, they are still coming by the west side of whidbey island in very good numbers but they have been very lockjawed, maybe you guys can get them to hit your gear in the rivers cause they sure aren't taking offerings in the salt...

We should be flooded with silvers but we aren't, atleast not yet maybe.... Unfortunately it is still slow to fair, some days are decent but then the next day skunked....Sekiu has been unseasonably slow too, very very few fish caught when I last checked Creel reports on WDFW website.

I have been seeing fish on the finder, and have caught a few, although most are smaller 4-7 lb fish that are likely resident coho. Many of the fish I am seeing on my electronics are deeeeeep, like 80-100' or deeper down to 150 ish, even at first light in morning. Are they coho? Maybe, could also be some of the lockjaw pinks that are still around/funneling in.

I'm guessing the coho aren't showing until very late OR have a usual case of Puget Sound lockjaw.....I've been having my best luck pounding the rips off PnP or Scatchet Headwith an Ace Hi Fly behind a small 8" flasher. Pink or green Ace Hi has been working well for me.

IF your itchin to get into some coho in steady numbers, I'd look to the resident coho, PM me if you'd like more info. They are smaller (as said, 4-7 lbs) but are in good numbers in a spot or two I know of and aren't too tough to get to bite....

Had a nice morning yesterday at the Shipwreck. I posted the following report. Looks like the Silver season is starting to come on good. It will only be helped by some rain over the next few days. Maybe some larger fish will be in mix.


Launched at Everett and got to the Shipwreck, Browns Bay area around 6:45. Two of us had 3 Silvers in the boat by 9AM but it took until noon to get the last one. Two prob local fish 4 pounds and two ocean fish 7-8 pounds. It appears the ocean fish are starting to come in a little stronger. Standard stuff, Hot Spot and green spatterback glo squid, 50 to 70 on the DR..

Decided to brave the sloppy conditions this morning but wish I would have slept in. Got skunked but as I pulled the boat out a few guys at the launch had some better luck and picked up 2 off the east side of possession...

My results on Thurs and this rain has me more optimistic. I'm retired so I dont fish weekends. I'll hit it again on Tues and maybe again Wed if it picks up like I think it will.

a friend of mine was out today in the slop off of skachett head and hooked 6 and landed 4 one going 14lbs and a absolute pig hittin the scale at 19.8. all fish were hooked at 85ft. the fish are not taking herring like before they are wanting candle fish.

2 limits this morning spin casting near Salsbury Point. thursday and friday produced limits too. a seal took one friday. the bank fisherman at Salsbury got 3.

Went out by myself yesterday, my buddy called in sick. Wound up with two twins about 7 but had to slog pretty hard for those two. Fished in mid channel with the fleet around the shipwreck. I was fishless until 11:30AM and I thought I would check out the shallow water. Trolled in 120-140 feet just south of the wreck and picked up one as soon as I got there. Marked quite a few fish. Trolled the same area until 1:30 and finally nailed another. 80-90 feet on the DR, hot spot and green glo squid although I tried lots of stuff, coho killers, ace hi fly, kingfisher spoon. Still kinda slow overall

I saw very few fish taken overall. I remain surprised that Sekiu is still not very good. On 9/18 at Olsons, 227 fishers got 35 Silvers!!?? Maybe the fish are blowing by the strait and going from the ocean straight to the Sound?

Seems like there has been an incredible amount of resident coho in the sound this summer. They are finally bulking up in the 5-8 lb range and I think they are making up the majority of the catch. That being said, there are some very nice ocean run fish mixed in but its been a very hit/miss coho season alike the inner sound king fishery. Some days you hit it at the right time and place and its been good but then its tough to scratch out anything the next day....

Discouraging to see Sekiu being so slow. They very well could be blowing by. I heard from a few people and saw a few reports saying that earlier this week it was good so that was unfortunate that you had a tough time yesterday. And now the wind may be kicking up over the next few days... Bummer....

This last weekend there were hundreds of boats in 8-2 and 9 for the derby and not one report was filed besides mine. There was one third hand report, that was it. Maybe it just takes a few days, who knows but I find it hard to believe that out of the hundreds and hundreds of people who fished for silvers last Saturday (Sunday was super windy) not one was a WALakes.com member. I just think the reports are a big part of this site and I wish more people would post their’s. No offense intended to anyone BTW. I just want to encourage everyone to file their reports so others can plan their trips with a little more knowledge.

i didnt post a reply because i had nothing to report lol. On saturday we started off trolling between skatchet and possession. we were using ace hi's and an assortment of hoochies in white green purple all of the above we didnt have any luck. from 7am-noon we didnt see a single net out for other boats landing any fish around possession point. so we decided to run to shipwreck and there was a little more action going on around us but no luck for our boat. The whole time we were trolling between 3-4 knots a buddy who was fishing around us with the same setup told us when we got home that we were going too fast they were trolling around 2 knots and got their limits for 4 people in about 4 hours....sorry for the delay

I havent been out since last Thurs. Too many honey do's and it was windy. Plan to go out on Thurs, post a report then. There havent been that many saltwater reports over the last couple months. I would agree, there should be more.
