Rather than threading, I only hook the worm once through. They live longer that way. Also, I only inflate half of the worm. That way, the bottom half (non-inflated) continues to wiggle. I usually impale the hook right below the inflated portion.
When it's in the water, the worm will be in a vertical position. The inflated part on top; hook in the middle; and non-inflated bottom half wiggling.
The worms will live longer (wiggle) if they have less air in them.
You usually have to cast them very delicately, to prevent the worm from tearing off the hook.
Depending on how much air you pump in, the worm may float all the way to the top if you don't add a sinker. The worm will usually live up to an hour if left alone--but repeated casting will kill them quicker.
