Green River Steelhead Q

Postby Brat Bonker » Tue Jun 12, 2012 7:26 pm

Thinking of trying it this summer possibly this weekend around sooes ck area and just wondering what I should use and should I try walking upstream or something. Never fished it before but I have heard there are fish being caught and jigs are working well. Any tips would be great for either summer or winter runs but preferbly summers.

Check out the video that Nate and Mike made about the Green river. They reveal some great spots that I have personally went to and explored!

I'd imagine high water techniques would be in play so fish close to the bank and look for seams but what I wanted to say is be very cautious in this area if you plan on wading in the water because the water is high, cold, and fast. This past pink season when the water was low i saw a handful of people fall into the water and some didn't come back up. Also i would suggest flaming geyser park right as you go in the first parking lot on the left. Thats where I would try. One more thing you do need the discovery pass for flaming geyser park or you could get a day pass from them and good luck.

Nope you don't need a pass for that area. It might be a bit muddy as well.

I was watching the green river video and saw it was high and muddy then but soos was clearer than the main river so I was thinking that will be a great spot as the fish are headed for there anyways. What do people usually use there, floats and jigs or drift corkies or what?

Um you realize that video was filmed a while ago or are you using in comparison. Anyway river water fluctuates so it can change from week to week. Also I would try float and jig, much easier to detect strikes and more water you can cover.

right, well I have never been there but that looked like some good float water. Any good jig colors, nightmare? tipped with prawn?

In my opinion there is no good jig color so just pick 1 try it doesn't work try another till you catch a fish. I have had days where 1 jig color worked real good all day and came back a few days later and they wouldn't touch, so i switched it to another and proceeded to catch fish
