Help Build The Lake Index Photo Library

Postby Marc Martyn » Fri Feb 22, 2008 12:53 am

Let's all make an effort to expand the photos of lakes around the state. Obviously everyone on this site owns a computer. Most people have a digital camera. When you are planning on fishing a lake, check the lake index and see if there are any photos of the lake and the launch area under the lake description. If there isn't, take your camera with you and shoots about 6 pictures. Download them to the computer and e-mail them to Mike Carey.

I was looking at the lake description of Lake Washington and was surprised to see that there was over 500 fishing reports and no photos of the lake! I have got one in the Spokane area that I have to do. West Medical, one of the most popular lakes in Eastern Washington, has no photos #-o

I can do Lake Washington and Lake Margaret in King County. Count me in on those two! Great idea, too. If everyone picked a couple lakes they fished then we'd have a great database of lake photos.

It would be geat to have my-mail box crammed with lake pictures. Usually a half dozen is all that's needed, depending on the lake size. Don't forget photos of the launch and parking area, parks, views around the lake.

Thanks for the help as this is one big state and much as I'd like I'll never get to all those lakes!

it REALLY would help me if people cc the pictures in web-saved size (under 250K, 800x600 format) to my e-mail address: mike@washingtonlakes.com

when done this way it's a quick upload to the site and done. I've had some problems with pictures posted to the forum. Sometimes they just won't save right, like fishnislife's ones. So please, if you can do that I would be most thankful!

Mike, can you make this post a "sticky"? That way it won't get lost in past topics.

I probably have 50 or more photos of launch ramps that I could scan and send in.

I'll be doing what I can to help this year also. I'll see if I can't get a couple of Marc with a few of the local beauties.

Hey Marc...what about the lakes that already have 3-5 photos...could/can we add and submit even more? I'm headed out to Lk. Alice tomorrow and would get some shots...but Mike already has a decent amount (given he fishes it quite a bit)...maybe Mike could answer that one. I guess more pics couldn't hurt!

The pictures of Alice are Mike's. Adding to them would be his call.

I have submitted additional photos of lakes showing areas that were not taken originally. He has posted those if the scenes are different. He does want to keep it around 6 pictures. Larger lakes like Washington and Chelan would probably need more. But again, it is up to Mike.

Yeah, I think I'll keep in to 3-5 pictures for Lake Washington for where I fish. I hope people that fish in the south of the lake get some photos for this "huge" lake. I can do 3-7 photos for Kenmore/Kirkland area, but the West Side and South Part... would be nice to have some photos for this portion, because it is so large.

That is a good idea. I know nothing about Lake Washington. I don't even know how many launches there are. With so many members fishing the lake, you guys should be able to cover it quite well.

What we don't want to do is to bog down Mike with tons of duplicate pictures. Check the lake index first before sending him more pictures of the same.

Exactly. That's a given! I don't think Washington even has 1 photo. Yikes!

One thing to keep in mind. Mike is going to be real busy in the near future. He has the Big Horn Sportsman Show, the site upgrade to work on, his real job, kids activities, honey-do lists and more.#-o Please be patient, he will get the the pictures posted.

wow, this is great! The 6 pics is kind of a rule of thumb, it can be more if the lake in question is large and could benefit from more shots. Lake Washington could have hundreds but we do need to have a limit. ONething that would definately help me is if you could have the pics resized to the web, which means the picture is usually under 150K each. I'll try my best to keep up with ya all...

When I submit pictures I have on Kodak Easyshare, I can save the photo in several different sizes. I choose "best for email" and it saves the photo at about 95-120k. "best for web" drops the size down to about half again. I find that "best for email" works best.

With the March 1 openers here, remember to take your camera and take pictures of lakes that aren't in the lake index.
