Feel free to ask any questions about trout fishing on the forum. There are a lot of guys that know a great deal about fishing for all kinds of fish. I am picking up tips everyday from several of the guys. Keep up the good work, Marc. Wonderful article, with lots of "fact", not just opinion. I usually only associated thermocline with winter fishing (ice), but I guess it has applications on the open water too!! thanks...
I have caught many fish in my life. The most exciting? The next one.....

Marc, I just got around to reading your article on the Thermocline. As you know I use a remote thermometer to find this layering in the water in the area lakes. What I didn't know was that the new fish finders are sensitive enough to do that for me.
While at Amber last week I noticed something a little unusual. The fish were in thick pockets at the upper end of the lake and were holding in about 8 to 12 feet of water. My remote thermometer showed 71° at the surface, 69° at the level of the fish and 61° at 20'. What's unusual is that the fish were so high in the water column. Usually you see them holding at the level where the temp is close to 64°.
As you described in your article I measured 12' of line and began to fish using chironomids with great success.
This stuff really works!
Thanks for the research and great article.

Roos, I haven't been to Amber in a couple of weeks, but the last time I was there I was reading a thermocline at about 10'. That fits your description. See Photo- File Attachment(s):
