Had some down time after training and decided to rent a couple boats and do some fishing.
The lake we hit is located at the far north end of the Ft. McCoy training area and covers about 600 acres. The lake on average is about 10 feet deep...some areas deeper and others shallower. Quite a bit of submerged timber for the largies to hide out in (not quite as woody as Kapowsin, though). For being the middle of October, the water temperature seemed fairly warm. Right around 55F-60F. Clear to about 4ft with quite a bit of vegatation on the bottom.
We started out with just a worm and bobber and caught 30+ bluegill and a couple dink LMB. The next day, we rigged up an assortment of bass lures, jigs and worms to work around the downed and submerged timber. Weightless texas-rigged senkos and finesse worms seemed to do the trick. We cast them around the timber for a few hours in the early morning and late evening.
Between the six of us over a two day period we ended up C&R 50+ LMB and 30+ assorted panfish (bluegill, crappie, perch). The LMB didn't have any size to them (1lb.- 2 1/2lb.), but did put up a good fight. The Bluegill was some of the largest I have seen in some time. Averaged about 1lb. - 1 1/4lb.). All in all, we had a real good time on the water, everyone caught fish and no one got their eye poked out.
