The fishing is spotty? Of coarse it is spotty, it is November. The same thing happened last year at Beaver and the fish were not right there every cast like you would expect for recently planted fish. The water is just to cold.
I would be out there mainly trying for holdovers if it were not for the crowds of "put and take" fisherman. I am not saying that any of you are these people or that it is a bad thing, but I get really irritated at the people who are not dedicated fisherman and only come to a lake at any indication of a good stocking in order to rape it of it's fish.
Good luck to you if you can handle these seasonal fisherman for a couple of 2-5lb turds.

Thanks for the posts guys. I learned about the plant a week ago from my neighbor and thought it might be fun to go cast a line as it has been quite a while since I've been fishing....well, after reading your posts and seeing the recent report, I'm glad I haven't had a chance to go. Doesn't sound like much fun right now. Maybe when the excitement wears off and the crowds go away. It wasn't that long ago when I was the only boat on the lake without even a shore fisherman to be seen...These "opportunity" fishermen will be gone soon enough.
....and I hate waiting in line for the boat launch anyway. :)

I made the mistake of fishing Beaver lake Sunday morning. It was crazy!!! I have never seen that many people at the boat launch and in the park fishing. I now remember why I NEVER go fishing on opening day anywhere! I think I'll wait another week or so befor trying it again.

Fished it today, only saw two fish caught the whole time by others. I had modest success fishing for the big ones, but I got bored so I just went a spot the big ones hadn't got to yet. This turned out four fish in the 14-15 range (measured).
The gods do not deduct from a man's alloted span the amount of time spent fishing. So why am I not out there?

I might be a taker for that rod. What is the condition of that crappy rod? (Fixing old junk rods into nice fishable specimens is my hobby). Or, I might be able to use the guides or parts of the blank or handle as spare parts for my other projects.

Went to the lake this morning and fished from 9:30 to 10:30am. Saw two fish hooked from boats. Both were lost. They were still fishing so I would guess worms or power bait. Lots of tubes and toons out there. I would guess about 8 that I saw. Didn't see any fish hooked by any of them. Heard one guy in a toon landed one and lost one. There were a dozen or so guys shore fishing. I saw two fish on the bank. Can anyone tell me what fly to use? I have tried a few wooly buggers in different colors and sizes but have not had any luck.
